My life in pictures

"In a language you should know."

- Ljungblut -

In a month I'll be 31 years old. Now, I won't go and claim old age, but during those 31 years I've gained a little bit of wisdom and a little bit of knowledge. That things change, people grow older, and that you don't have to stay anywhere forever. Most of these pictures aren't exactly high quality art, but they are growing into historical documents to me, and for better or worse, they represent my life. For years I've taken my camera everywhere I go and tried to capture the little moments that eventually make up a life well lived. It's only in retrospect I can look back at them with a bittersweet taste in my mouth, and clearly see how they age with time. To absent friends, lost loves, old gods, and the season of mists; and may each and every one of us always give the devil his due. To 31 years, and a 100 more.

2005.
This is probably the first real photoshoot I had. In the pictures are 2 music artists who were working together at that time in Larvik, Norway. One being my brother. Shot with a borrowed camera.

2006.
This picture was taken in an attic using real pig's blood, which I can't imagine is safe to drench anyone in.

2006.
This picture is of the photographer Yoo Sun. We used to hang out quiet a bit back in the day. Until one day he just disappeared. I saw him again in Oslo last summer. He passed me on the street, and like two ex lovers we acknowledged each other's existence and quickly went on our way.

2006.
If fame is measured by the level of reach and recognition, then this is arguably my most famous work. It has been "stolen" numerous times and used in several ways. Posters for raves, graffiti workshops, and most notably, as a Mt Eden thumbnail on youtube (where's my youtube dollarzz?). I don't mind it to be honest. It's funny to see my friend's face in all these weird places.

2007.
Some pictures come from nowhere at all. This fellow found his poker glasses, an old military uniform, and his hunting rifle. We decided that was good enough. And looking back at it, it sure was.

2007.
I started experimenting with macro photography, and decided to buy a package of army men. I never really did too much of macro after that, and this feels as the only one I really got close to right.

2007.
This was prior to a costume party (hence the Slots beer in the background). Not sure what to say about the subject in the picture, other than thank you, and may the road rise up to meet you.

2007.
I made this jacket in my HIM fan days and had the opportunity to use it in a picture when a friend of mine took a liking to the picture. Also worth to note that this picture was shot in a laundromat.

2007.
Stavanger. The rapper is Ukjent, now known as Larro. I've always had a great love for LA photographer Estevan Oriol's visual style. So we took a walk through Stavanger, and in true Estevan spirit, shot using gritty, dirty backdrops, and improvising the whole shoot.

2008.
At a party in Trondheim. This couple later married and had a kid.

2008.
This was the last days of Infinite records (Note, the infinity sign on the wall), a Larvik hip-hop collective/record company that released around 10 albums over the span of 10 years. People would often come to the studio to either drink, play poker, or record songs.

2008.
Oslo Grand Hotel. Smoking out the window.

2008.
Folken, Stavanger. The band on stage is Ash. I was a part of the photography group at the house, and as part of the deal I was allowed to shoot the band coming through for only the first 3 songs. Instead I decided to shoot the other photographers franticly trying to get all the pictures they needed.

2009.
London.

2009.
London. Later in my life I've grown an intense need to travel and see as much as I can. I hung out with these people for a solid week, but it feels like a lifetime ago, and I cannot for the life of me remember their names.

2009.
Norwegian Rapper Bru in the middle of a cornfield at 5 am in the morning. Me and a few friends where looking for a party, and Bru suggested we should go over to his place. Little did we know that meant hanging out with him and his twin friends in the middle of a field.

2009.
Drinking.

2010.
Morten The Maniac is a fakir, and performer. I shot this of him on a stage in Larvik. Pretty sure that needle went through his chin or eyebrow.

2010.
I love taking pictures at parties. I remember in 2004 people used to love it, then in 2008 they didn't mind. Nowadays most people seem to get very annoyed and tell me not to take any pictures. Funny how much smart phones and the internet have impacted our lives.

2010.
A picture of my mom

2010.
My nephew.

2010.
My cousin.

2010.
Tattoo artist John Anderton. He guest worked at my brother shop 7 years ago, and we hit it off. We shot a few pictures together as he was eager to learn about most areas in visual arts. We got drunk and stumbled through Larvik. Haven't talked to him since. I think we had a falling out, but as Amanda Palmer once sang: "I can't seem to keep them all straight. I've forgotten which people I like, And which people I hate"

2010.
Growing up with a military granddad was nothing of what you would think it was. He was kind, funny, and loved to take me and my brother out on adventures. Coming from a patch work family there aren't too much I am proud of in terms of accomplishment. One is to have a great-granddad who gave his life in the second world war in the merchant navy, another is my granddad who grew up without a father, adamant to serve his country to make sure we never again get invaded. He was my granddad and I miss him dearly.

2010.
A great friend of mine smoking.

2010.
Skotta, 7 years ago was a magical place. Most magical places don't exist simply in locations, but also in time. And the time was right for Skotta. We used to play pub-quizzes, and the entire town would show up and drink into the night. I guess they still do, the time just ran out on my part.

2010.
Skotta. People don't go topless at parties anymore, looking back at this picture I'm kinda glad they don't.

2010.
Yoga Fire at John Dee in Oslo. I only had a compact camera to the show and did my best to capture the moment. Yoga Fire was and is to me the perfect Norwegian band, too bad they lost momentum shortly after.

2010.
This is Magdi from Karpe Diem on stage in Larvik.

2010.
Some pictures are better with no additional description.

2010.
Some party. I think this was around the time people started getting annoyed when photographed.

2010.
A band I once played in. We recorded an EP in the span of a weekend in Kristiansand, drinking nothing but beer, and arguing into the early morning. I think this picture was shot right after buying more beer at 10 am.

2010.

2010
After hearing Bellman's "all that is beautiful" I was mesmerised and wanted to shoot him live. I've been lucky enough to do so on multiple occasions, and I never seize to enjoy his live shows.

2010.
Horten

2010.
Another concert without a proper camera. This is in Horten and of Oslo Ess. They performed an amazing set. I consider them another great Norwegian band, and I enjoy looking forward to their new releases.

2010.
Oslo used to have an awesome underground bar named "Paa jakt & fiske". At that place a "Martin Special" meant a shot with a small sample of all the liquor in the bar put together.

2011.
This was supposed to be a group picture.

2011.
The great Rose-parade of July. Also the last time I shot press photographs (of which I never sold).

2011.
Drinking games

2011.
Dafting; Getting your friends together, buying some cheap inflatable boats, couple of six-packs of beer, and letting the current of the river do all the work.

2011.
Some bar. I love watching people interact in the late hours of the night.

Sometimes you pass out, but still have to finish that cigarette.

Happy, drunk people. How I love them.

2011.

2011.
A beautiful day in the park.

2011.
This is of a friend of mine, and arguably a great strength in my life. I wanted to test out some more tilt shifting by unmounting my lense early a sunday morning and he was up for it. I have know idea why he doesn't have a shirt on.

2012.
My mom

2012.
The greatest pool player in the world.

2013.
I'm not usually mesmerised by writings on a wall. But this one captured my eye.

2013.
My good friend Nathan playing bass in the early morning.

2014.
One of these two guys is more hungover than the other.

2014.
A friend recording reverb in a train station in Oslo. 4:30 am, before rush hour.

2015.
We went and got Boba tea in the cold grey streets of Oslo and talked the day away. I love the fact my shadow's in the picture. I must be getting sloppy.

2015.
My beautiful daughter.

2016.
Paul punching a heavy bag.
